This past Sunday we went to my Mother's house to celebrate her birthday. While we were there, Jacob was all over the place with his cousins, playing and laughing. While I was sitting at the kitchen table with my sister, Jacob started to go downstairs with his cousin. Normally, I helicopter all over him when he does anything on stairs, but he just started to go down the (carpeted) stairs, and he was going slow, taking his time, so I just called out, "Hold onto the rail".
Of course, he bit it, falling down the last two steps. He cried out, and my father, who was at the top of the steps, came and got him. He was limping a little, but he calmed down immediately. People were babying him, of course. I gave him hugs and kisses and he sat on my lap for a while, but if he felt fine, I didn't want to make a big deal about it.
That night he woke up saying his foot hurt. It still looked okay, so I gave him ibuprofen and told him if it hurt in the morning we would take him to the Dr. He told me his foot felt fine in the morning. I drove him to childcare, and later he went to swim class with Mr. B.
Tuesday he woke up with a barking cough which I recognized as croup. I made an appointment with the Dr., and Mr. B and I took him in the afternoon. Luckily, he just had a common cold. While we were there, we thought she should check out his foot, because he was still limping. I think you all know where I am going with this....
Three fractures in his foot, three! All from falling down two steps, the one time I didn't escort him down the stairs. How terrible do I feel? Please, can someone hold onto that "Mom of the Year" trophy for me? He was in the Doctor's office for 5 hours getting x-rayed and casted and he never cried. His Momma on the other hand....
I was back at the Doctor's the next day for a skin infection with Drew. Again, Mom Of The Year award might have to wait.
Then, Louie dog jumped the fence. The neighbors grabbed him, so when I called him, he came running, but we almost lost him. He was all dirty, like he had been left out to run wild for weeks. Not sure what kind of adventures he had, but he acted pretty traumatized. He was not the only one.
Needless to say, I don't have much confidence in myself as a caretaker at this time. I always did have trouble keeping plants alive. At least Sharky v.2.0 is still alive and healthy.
For now.

Ode to Sharky
Dearest Sharky,
I am sorry you passed away last night. It was sudden and unexpected, and we are sorry to see you go. We enjoyed watching you swim, and eat. You weren't exciting or flashy, but you did your thing. Even if your thing wasn't exciting, you were consistent.
Thank you for not leaving dirty socks all over the house, or leaving the toilet seat up. Thanks for being patient when we would forget to feed you, overfeed you or tap on the fish tank. Thanks for putting up with all of the screaming that takes place in our house. Most importantly, thanks for being Drew and Jacob's first pet. Rest in Peace in the giant Fish bowl in the sky.
Love,
Your family, The Bees
PS We are totally going to pass off another fish as you, but know that if Drew knew you kicked the bucket, he would be sad and miss you. Maybe we will approach that idea when the new friend in our family, Sharky V. 2.0, kicks it.... in about 5 months.
PSS You truly are one of a kind.... so much so that Drew questioned whether Sharky V. 2.0 was really Sharky, or if we picked up the wrong fish from "the Doctor". So you were special, and unforgettable!

Friday Favorites #2 *Updated*
**Update: Please Tune in tomorrow for a special Guest Poster for Valentine's day. Yup, it's Mr. Bee! (I know how to work the system.)**
I'm sorry if my list seems a little sparse, it has been a tough week (sickness, power outages, work stress) but these things kept me going this week:
Sharky the fish. He is quite the laid back grandfish, even staying cool and collected when our power was out for 8 hours Wednesday night. (And I do mean cool. The temperature in the house was 59 degrees Fahrenheit when the power came back on. Scary.)

These Bibs, Handcrafted by my Cousin-in-Law, Jodi. They are big, roomy around the neck and soft and wash up so nice. Both bibs are reversible with a fluffy side and soft side with print on the other side. Jacob actually keeps this on! She only sells them to local stores, but shouldn't she sell them on Etsy?

What are your favorites from this week?

Flameless Candles. When our power was out we left these going in the bathroom in case Drew woke up and was scared or needed to potty. Not as obnoxious as a flashlight, but safer than a candle. I'm going to pick more up soon.

These Posts (okay I just can't pick one ever):
Momo, The Red Sox, My Dad and God By Lisa @ Left Coast Cowboys
Who's The Dummy Mummy By Catherine @ Her Bad Mother
This sweater at Old Navy. Don't know why, but I got it for $10, not 20$ and I LOVE it!
Munchkin Bottle Brush Now that I don't have any bottles to clean I use it for washing dishes. It stores up right, dishwasher safe and not harmful for the dishes. It rawks.

Newest Addition to the Bee Family...
Mr. Bee and Drew went to the pet store this weekend and returned with a new family member. Don't get too excited, it's just a Fish. Drew named him "Sharky" after Mr. Bee kindly informed him that the name "Daddy" was taken. (Geez, be a little fussypants Mr. Bee.)
I know you all think I'm jerk for the buildup. And I'm sorry if you were disappointed. I was hoping they would come home with something more exciting too. Unfortunately you cannot purchase a Llama for 10$ (the budget).
